Turtles! When you come to visit, at least this time of year, watch for turtles on the driveway.
We don't know much about turtles in this area, like where they are going and why. Likely it is a bit faster to stop and help them to the other side of the driveway rather than wait for them to cross. But it's Double Oak. No need to hurry.
Last Sunday Dennis carefully put his excellent curry in a crock pot and stowed it in the trunk of the car for the trip to church. I drove more carefully than usual . . .until a mallard couple refused to be hurried across the street. I didn't harm one feather, but a third of the curry sloshed all over the trunk and my yoga mats. Not pretty. I did, however, Make Way for Ducklings, one of my favorite children's books. (I bought copies when we were in Maine. Just in case.)
We've found gorgeous spring wild flowers all over the land, many more than I expected. Not much better than a field of daisies and ferns.
Tuesday we returned the engineer's plans with pages of notes. Next week the subcontractors will provide bids. Then we go on vacation. Perhaps, but only perhaps, we will dig the end of June. In the meantime, Dennis is cutting paths and just being on the property is gift. We're enjoying hosting picnics and walks with friends. Let us know when you want to join us!
